I'd always thought of how cats are actually highly intelligent pets. I mean, they were smart enough to choose to live with humans for shelter and food whereas canines had to be tamed. And they learn tricks, fast. I have one cat that can sit, lie down, fetch, do high-5s, etcetera. And they're FAST! Blurring fast and so agile you know they have an incredibly quick reaction time. Which is probably what made a cats brain so interesting to reasearchers who are on the verge of producing Super Computers that are the size of a 2-Litre bottle of soda.

Using a new technology called memristors, these new computers will be able to handle tasks incredibly fast by mimcking a brain with a simulated construct of two neurons and a synapse. It will allow it to think in parallel (at once simultaniously) instead of linear (step by step instruction) and hold a true memory. The SuperComputer 'Dawn' at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory can simulate a cats brain, but it is 100 to 1,000 times slower. This new technology intends to imrove all that.

With the advent of a more brainy computer, perhaps things like problems keeping the energy hungry internet going can be solved AND improved. It definately has some advantages, as well as some upcomming hurdles in the way programs work and code has to be be created and written. Perhaps robotic genuises around the world are poised to insert this new brain into their creations and bring forth a new race... okay let's not get beyond ourselves here, but hey, this does make many things possible.
