My First VB.Net Web Application
I'd always wanted to do programming. And now that I'm attending college to do so, within a mere six weeks I'd learned enough to create my first working web application while the rest of the class is still figuring out basic controls.
But then, I'd wanted to do these things for some time. A very good friend and I formed a partnership. We started tomcat.ws and offered some basic services for free, the most notable one being a Web Browser called the Prowler. It was sleek, fast, had a few special features like a Popup Blocker and 2-Click Clean of cookies and temp files. hundreds of thousands of people have used it since we offered it quite a few years ago.
Since then there have been advances, plus there were a couple quirks we wanted to get around. So knowing what I would create was easy; a new version of the Prowler Browser. So at first I explored and tested various coding one evening. I was making great strides in getting various things to work in these test projects. The following night I started playing around, and came up with a unique preview version we can use to work off of. It was a great success, actually! It was an install-able, fully functioning application.
Not only did I have a Web browser, but I had a DUAL, Split Screen web browser that can surf and view two sites simultaniously, with an adjustable divider. When Dual View isn't needed, it can be docked to the far side. I also added a neat little feature that lets you take a Screen Shot of the website you are viewing. A possibly handy tool I am sure people would like to use without running a seperate application.
This is just a start, of course. We're going to have a Tabbed web browser with a built-in rich text editor that drops down for various uses. The usual popup blocker and other prowler features will be included, including quick cleaning, EZ-2-See SLL Icon and more. A free quick-click Short-URL service. Parental controls. Perhaps even a possible Website Development package.
So I'll be busy at this for a little while I imagine. But progress goes FAST so hopefully, before you realize it's been very long at all, I'll be posting news that the new Prowler Browser II is now available for public download and use. Wish me luck, and type at'cha soon!
