Free 2GB of Accessible Storage Space!
If you have not been backing up your data or have ever been in a situation where you needed to access files from a remotte location but were unable to, then do I have great news for you! Here I am going to give you a link with which to get your own free 2 Gigabytes of storage space AND be able to access those files 24/7 from any location!
The need to back up and access important files has become increasingly prevalent in our more advanced technological society, however the majority of people either do not know how to or improperly use back up methods or procedures. The purpose of this tutorial is to introduce a professional and free service called Dropbox which makes backing up and accessing files a much easier task.
Dropbox is a Web service that allows you to have a backup of, and instant access to, at least 2 gigabytes worth of your most important files. You begin on your own computer, either a desktop or a laptop, to download and install the free Dropbox application. Then you will create your own Dropbox account with which to log in and use the service. Finally, you will be able to use the Dropbox service to back up and access your files from any location with internet access.
Download and Install Dropbox
1. Open your web browser and surf to the Dropbox website: DropBox.com
2. Click the "Download Dropbox" Button. Be sure to be on your own computer at home or on your laptop, as this installs an application.
3. Follow the Instructions. You will want to run and allow this installation to download the Dropbox application. (Click "Run" then "Yes" to Allow. When it appears, click the "Install" Button.)
4. Click on the appropriate Box and click "Next". You may need to allow the process to "Continue", it depends what Operating System you are using. Just follow the directions on the screen here.
Create a Dropbox Account
1. Create your Account by filling in the approriate information and click "Next".
2. Select the DropBox Size, keeping in mind only the 2 GB options is Free. (You can always increase this size later with referals and other means.)
Use DropBox to Backup and Access Files
From Home: You can View the Tour to see how it works. And you will have the option at the end of the installation to Open and view the Dropbox Folder just created for you. You'll have a Dropbox Folder on your computer Hard Drive. You can see it under the "My Documents" Folder. You can also share files with others in a "Public" Folder. You can alter the properties of the folders you create and use under Dropbox to be private or public.
When at a remote PC: simply surf to www.DropBox.com, log in and you can View, Download, Upload your files to your Dropbox account. You'll not only have Backups, but also instant access to your most needed files any time of day and from any where you have internet access. You can even add files from a mobile device!
You should now, at the very least, have a free 2 gigabyte Dropbox account and the ability to start backing up your most important files. The service also has some easy steps to increasing your account size such as referring other people. Downloading and installing Dropbox made synchronizing your computer to automatically back up files very easy. Then signing up for an account allowed you to get 2 free gigabytes or buy more of storage space. And lastly, you were able to fully utilize the Dropbox file back up and access service.
