Getting New Visitors... for FREE
Getting NEW visitors to your website can be fun to do! Doing a little bit of work and watching the numbers climb is exciting. I recently sat at a new website and watched the guests online grow to as high as 100 people. Of 100 people, some joined, others bought products.
First let me say that there are MANY services offering Link Exchanges and such for free, but they are a DEAD END. Usually the only ones posting or reading there are other marketers who will visit your site only to see if they can advertise on it somewhere. Not good. So, ignore the hype in ads you may see and follow my advice here for better results.
FREEBIES and CONTESTS seem to bring people, so have something in mind. A contest that lasts a month for something significant is better than a fleeting one with a crummy gift. You have more time to reach more people, and they're going to sign up for the better prize. But do not ignore the easy, cheapo freebie idea, either! It will bring in people just to give free advice! An article on how to do something, for example, will be there forever enticing people to your website from links that keep growing.
Social Networking is AWESOME and can bring in alot of people. So STAY ACTIVE in garnering followers on Twitter and friends on MySpace. Eventually you're going to tweet about your new website or mention a contest, and you're going to see new people visit. Make it interesting, make people want to click on that link.
Reciprical Links are also great to have. These are mutual ads placed by two consenting websites. If you link to MY website from YOUR website, then I will do the same. This also helps to increase your rankings on search engines. (For more on Search Engine rankings, you'll find it's very intensive and the rules and means with which websites are categorized and cataloged changes over time. Try using google to search for the information.)
We are not trying to get you to be #1 on the search engines here, but, rather to help you get some decent results without having to spend money or devote alot of time to learn about SEO or SEF or search engine spiders. And to help you not WASTE time, as well. For example...
Newsletters ARE a great way to inform your members about current and new events or information. However, if you have a website already, then it's slightly redendant, for one. Another thing is that people are unlikely to read through it all. And then you'd like them to click and visit the site. INSTEAD of a Newsletter service, try a NewsNOTICE service. Instead of a lengthy newsletter, make it a SHORT and sweet, to the point paragraph or two long notice, with links leading to the pertainent information or article on your site. THAT they're more likely to read as opposed to a longer, scrolling emailed newsletter.
You'll also notice that some websites will allow you to post your banner or button. These are graphic advertisements instead of a textual link. It would be wise to have some for your use at some point, as long as they look professional. Okay, so we're on our way to planting the seeds for traffic here. Let's go on with even more ways to advertise your website and reaching more people. BUT before doing this, you will want to make sure your website is READY. You may wish to read up on using KEYWORDS and applying them to your website. See my article; "What are KeyWords? How do I use them?".

This service ALSO has free tools you can use to help you get your site as prepared as possible BEFORE submitting. Such as a Keyword Traffic Estimator, and a Keyword Suggestion Tool. However, the suggestions are just that, suggestions. You still need to do the work for finding the best ones for you and your site to get the most visitors.
